At Abundant Health, Dr. Katie blends her traditional medical training with her "food as medicine" approach, to help determine the root cause of disease and treat patients as a whole person.
What is Direct Primary Care?
Direct Primary Care is a unique approach to healthcare. We don't bill insurance companies, so you and your doctor are the only ones making decisions about your healthcare. This also allows your doctor to provide longer appointment times that are specifically tailored to your needs.
We have fewer patients. Most Direct Primary Care doctors limit their practice to about 300, as opposed to the traditional 3,000+ patients seen by most primary care physicians in traditional clinics. This creates a much more personal experience between you and your doctor. It provides easy appointment access, with patients being able to be seen same-day or next-day.

Kathryn Aune, MD, Internal Medicine & Pediatrics
I am a board-certified Med-Peds physician who believes medicine is most powerful when it is personal, thoughtful, and relationship-centered. My training across both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics allows me to care for patients across the lifespan, while my passion lies in whole-person, root-cause medicine.
After stepping away from traditional practice to focus on raising and homeschooling my children, I returned to clinical work with renewed clarity about the kind of physician I wanted to be — one who has the time to listen, think deeply, and partner closely with patients. I founded my own direct primary care telehealth practice to create space for meaningful relationships, prevention-focused care, and integrative approaches that address the “why” behind illness.
My clinical interests include complex chronic disease, lifestyle and metabolic health, and helping patients navigate care with confidence and clarity. I am committed to thoughtful, evidence-informed medicine that honors both science and the lived experience of each patient.
